TARIC Consultation Tutorial

Consult tariffs, measures, codes, and import requirements in the European Union

1. What is TARIC?

TARIC (Tarif Intégré de la Communauté) is the Integrated Tariff of the EU. The TARIC consultation tool allows access to:

  • Applicable customs tariffs
  • Suspension or preferential measures
  • Tariff quotas
  • Prohibitions, restrictions, and required documents
Note: TARIC is updated daily and is based on the Combined Nomenclature of goods.

2. Access to the tool

  1. Access: taric_consultation.jsp
  2. No registration is required
  3. Available in several EU languages

Direct access to the search engine is also linked from the Taxation and Customs portal.

3. How to search?

  1. Enter the tariff code (HS/CN/TARIC) or a keyword (e.g., "wine")
  2. Select the country of origin of the goods
  3. Select the date of the operation (default is today)
  4. Click on “Display Measures”
  • You will see a detailed list with applicable tariffs, preferences, and special measures
  • Click on “Details” for more specific information on regulations or required documentation
Important: Some items have subdivisions (TARIC levels) that activate additional requirements.

4. Interpretation of results

The results include:

  • Base tariff (MFN)
  • Tariff preferences under trade agreements
  • Anti-dumping measures
  • Import licenses or restrictions
  • Additional codes to be declared

All this can change depending on the country of origin or the nature of the product.

5. Documentation and requirements

In addition to tariffs, it shows if the following are necessary:

  • Sanitary, phytosanitary, or technical certificates
  • Import licenses
  • Quotas with additional codes
  • Specific registrations or declarations

Click on the document icons to consult the legal basis.

6. Practical example

Example: Import of chocolate from Ecuador

  1. Enter code 180632 (chocolate with sugar)
  2. Country of origin: Ecuador
  3. Date: today
  4. Result: 0% tariff under GSP (Generalized System of Preferences)
  5. Requirement: comply with the rule of origin and declare an additional code

Consult the breakdown to confirm necessary documentation and regulatory references.

7. Usage tips

  • Always consult TARIC before importing or budgeting
  • Save the TARIC codes and their measures as part of the logistics file
  • Also check Access2Markets for complementary information
  • Frequently review regulatory changes, especially in regulated sectors (food, chemicals, textiles...)
