Country Risk Tool Tutorial (CESCE)

Evaluate the political and economic risk of more than 160 countries to export more safely

1. What is the Country Risk Map?

CESCE publishes a free interactive map with the assessment of country risk in three levels:

  • Political risk (conflicts, instability, sovereign default)
  • Commercial risk (probability of business default)
  • Structural risk (long-term factors such as external debt, reserves, dependence on raw materials)
Note: It is updated periodically and is used by exporters, insurers, and financial institutions.

2. How to access it?

  1. Visit: cesce.es/en/country-risk
  2. Click on the “Consult interactive map” button
  3. The map will open with colors by risk level

3. Interactive map functionalities

You can click on any country to see:

  • Risk level (from 1 to 7)
  • Recommended coverage type
  • Analytical comments by country
  • Download of sheet in PDF
Tip: Hover the mouse over the countries to quickly see their score.

4. Interpretation of risk

  • 1 - Low risk: stable OECD countries (e.g., Germany, Japan)
  • 4 - Moderate: emerging countries with reasonable stability
  • 7 - High risk: countries in conflict or with severe restrictions

The classification is aligned with international credit insurance standards.
