ICEX Statistics Tutorial

Access official data on exports and imports from Spain by product, country, and sector

1. What is the ICEX Statistics module?

It is a commercial data query tool developed by ICEX Spain Export and Investment. It allows you to visualize foreign trade statistics at a very detailed and segmented level.

  • Export and import data from/to Spain
  • Breakdown by country, product, autonomous community, company, and sector
  • Monthly update based on data from the Tax Agency
Note: This tool is free and does not require prior registration.

2. How to access

  1. Visit ICEX - Statistics
  2. Click on “Acceso a estadísticas” (Access to statistics) to open the interactive module
  3. It will open in a new window under the domain datacomex.comercio.es

From there you can customize your queries and export results.

3. Query options

  • Por país: see what products Spain exports to a specific market (By country)
  • Por producto: identify main export destinations (By product)
  • Por comunidad autónoma: consult export activity by region (By autonomous community)
  • Por empresa (exportadores top): in advanced version for authorized users (By company (top exporters))
  • Series históricas: monthly and accumulated data since 1995 (Historical series)
Tip: You can select several years, products, and countries at the same time.

4. Customizing results

Once the query is made, you can:

  • View the data in an interactive table
  • Download in Excel
  • Apply additional filters (time range, FOB/CIF values, etc.)
  • Export graphs and comparisons

This allows you to create your own reports adapted to your sector or internationalization strategy.

5. Practical example

Example: Export of olive oil from Spain to Japan

  1. Access “Consulta por producto” (Query by product)
  2. Enter HS 150910 (virgin olive oil)
  3. Select “Japón” (Japan) as the destination country
  4. Define the time range (e.g., 2020–2024)
  5. Visualize the exported volume and its evolution

You can compare with other countries to identify emerging opportunities.

6. Advantages and limitations

  • Advantages: precise data, official source, segmentation by company (in advanced version)
  • Limitations: does not include unit prices or commercial margins; does not have cartographic visualization
  • Ideal complement: combine with TradeMap, Export Potential Map, and Market Access Map

7. Usage recommendations

  • Update your searches every month: data is usually published between the 20th and 25th
  • Save your favorite combinations in Excel for future monitoring
  • Use the results to support presentations, SWOT analyses, or sector analyses
