Google Trends Tutorial

Analyze the evolution of Google searches by country, period, and category

1. What is Google Trends?

Google Trends is a free tool that allows you to explore the search interest of any word or topic on Google, segmented by region, language, and time.

  • Comparison of terms or brands
  • Identification of emerging trends
  • Seasonality analysis
  • Detection of potential markets
Note: Ideal for complementing market studies, SEO analysis, and international marketing.

2. Access and navigation

  1. Visit: Google Trends
  2. Select language and country if desired
  3. In the search bar, enter a term or topic

You can also explore current trends and featured topics from the main page.

3. Search results

Once a term is searched, the following will be displayed:

  • Interest graph over time
  • Interest by subregion or country
  • Related topics
  • Related queries (emerging or top)
Tip: You can change the time interval, country, and topic category.

4. Compare terms

At the top, click on "+ Compare" and enter another term.

  • You will see both terms in the same graph
  • You can compare up to 5 terms at a time
  • The data is normalized (maximum = 100)

This is useful for analyzing competition, products, or key concepts.

5. Export results

  • In each graph, click on the three vertical dots
  • Select "Download as CSV"
  • You can use it for your own graphs in Excel or presentations
Important: Google Trends does not show absolute volumes, but relative trends.

6. Practical example

Example: Compare "olive oil" and "avocado" in Mexico

  1. Search: "olive oil"
  2. Click on "+ Compare" and enter "avocado"
  3. Filter by "Mexico", last 12 months, "Food & Drink" category
  4. Observe when each term has more interest

This helps determine seasons, campaigns, or new consumer preferences.
